Dass die Reds gegen Newcastle den mühevollen Mini-Sieg einfahren, liegt auch an Fabian Schär. Der Schweizer hat beim Gegentreffer entscheidend seine Füsse im Spiel. Er wird vor dem 1:0 durch Liverpools Naby Keita in der 19. Minute nach einem harten Milner-Tackling vom Ball getrennt. Der Video-Schiedsrichter taxiert dies allerdings nicht als Foul. Nach einer Stunde muss Schär mit einer Muskelverletzung vom Platz.
Trotz des Sieges kommt Liverpool nicht näher an Tabellenführer City ran. Denn auch die Guardiola-Truppe feiert einen Sieg.
